Without the financial support of the League of Friends, it would be impossible for Ridgeway Radio to provide the services that we do.

Here is some information about this excellent organisation.

About the Friends

We were founded nearly 50 years ago to provide comfort and help to patients at the old Dorset County Hospital, their relatives and friends.

Today's modern hospital is very different, but our volunteers still do what we were set up to do back in 1956 - we provide facilities and equipment that are not available through NHS funding.

What do we do?

You'll see our volunteers around the hospital every day of the year. We run the hospital shop (by the main entrance of North Winf), and the Cafe Bar (first floor, South Wing).

We aslo run a ward trolley service, and, of course, we raise money.

Who can join?

Anyone who wants to support the work of the hospital. If you or a loved one have been cared for at Dorset County Hospital, joining the Friends for just £5 a year (£1 if you are a volunteer) is a good way of 'giving something back', whether you're 8, 18 or 80.

How can I help?

Join us! There is a form available in the hospital, or speak with any of our volunteers. (If you can't find one, staff at Reception will be pleased to help.) We are always delighted to hear from people who can spare some free time to work around the hospital or help us with fundraising. We also welcome new committee members.

For more information write to:

or use the Ridgeway Radio contact form, clearly specifying that the message is for the Friends.

How can I donate?

We are always grateful for gifts of money, large or small. We are an efective channel for donations and bequests, including those for specific purposes. As an independent body we are uniquely placed to ensure donations are used for the best purpose.

A donation can be increased by nearly a third through Gift Aid. If you would like to find out more about making a bequest, please contact The Treasurer at the address above.
